Waiting for Godot – the national implementation of the DSM Directive

As previously reported, Directive (EU) 2019/790 on copyright and related rights in the Digital Single Market  was adopted – under heavy debate – by the European Parliament in April 2019, and is finally approaching implementation in member states.  

Under the Directive, EU member states were to bring into force the laws, regulations and administrative provisions necessary to comply with it by 7 June 2021. The deadline having long passed, Finland and Sweden are yet to transpose the provisions of the DSM Directive into their national legislation, but we are getting closer, as both countries seek to do so by the end of the year.
