Gorilla Capital is a venture capital investor building the largest start-up portfolio in Finland. We intend to invest in more than 100 companies, which requires an exceptional operating model. I have worked with Fondia already for quite a long time, at least 6–7 years. I have always liked Fondia’s different perspective of the legal industry and the company’s original – very start-up-like – idea to do things differently than what the industry has traditionally been used to. Fondia wants to build its services so that, in the long run, they reach the most affordable solution for the customer.
Fondia’s attitude has always remained good. It seems that Fondia prefers to work with a customer in an entrepreneur-entrepreneur manner rather than the traditional entrepreneur-lawyer relationship – let alone any king-subordinate relationship. My experience is that Fondia operates fairly and transparently, and the goal is not to bill every minute. Even in the start-up sector, such a fair procedure is exceptional for lawyers. Instead of making things difficult and maximizing the hours to be billed, Fondia is very pragmatic; working is entrepreneurial without unnecessary rigidness or boasting. Their authority is based on substantive expertise, not prestige.
From a layman’s point of view, the threshold for using legal assistance can be high, as many fear that the billing clock starts as soon as the phone is answered. This does not happen with Fondia because their attitude and manner demonstrate their aspiration to think of the customer’s overall advantage, known as the sweat saves blood principle.
Fondians are suitably active and genuine professionals who always think about the best operating model for the customer. We feel that we can trust their judgment and that with them, we are in safe hands. Fondia takes full responsibility for the customer, which is made possible by knowing the customer’s business and their own level of expertise.
The people at Fondia have a genuinely friendly manner, which conveys how they themselves are looked after as employees. They enjoy doing exactly what they are doing.
